In Memory

Ellen Smyth (Moffo)

Ellen Marie Smth Moffo

1950-1973

Ellen Marie (nee Smyth) Moffo, 72, of Mason, Ohio, was a loving mother, Mimi, sister, wife, and loyal friend to many. She leaves behind children: Kristina (Nick) Linberg, Michael (Heidi) Moffo, Mariellen (Bryan) Davis and cherished grandchildren: Nolan, Keegan, and Landen Linberg and Riley and Michael Moffo. She passed away on March 31st, 2023 at Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati while surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Ellen was born in Warsaw, Indiana to Joseph Vincent and Ellen Marie Smyth on August 31, 1950. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1968 where she enjoyed summers working at the Tasty Freeze. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in education from Illinois State University, but enrolled the next fall in the nursing program at Northern Illinois University and earned her RN. She worked in various nursing positions for the next decade, but after getting her Master’s Degree from Wright State University, she found her true passion in school nursing.

She spent over 25 years in the Lakota Local School District as a school nurse taking care of students across the ages of Kindergarten-8th grade. She was married to Michael P. Moffo for over 20 years with whom she took pride in raising their three children together.

Ellen was happiest enjoying life’s simple pleasures: tending to her flowers and herbs, cooking homemade meals for family (she never showed up empty-handed!), lunches with friends that stretched on for hours with stories and great laughs, spoiling her dogs and grand-dogs, and of course, spending precious time with her five grandchildren. She was both a great listener and advice-giver who was never afraid to tell you like it is! Her witty charm will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

All family and friends are invited to her funeral mass that will be held at All Saints Catholic Church, 8939 Montgomery Rd. Cincinnati, OH on Saturday April 29th at 10 AM as well as a Celebration of Life to share their memories of Ellen at The Lodge at Voice of America Park 7850 VOA Park Dr. West Chester, OH 45069 from 11:30 AM-3:30 PM.

A private family burial will follow at a later date at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary, Illinois.

Memorial donations can be made in memory of Ellen to Animal Friends Humane Society (https://www.animalfriendshs.org/)

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the phenomenal care team at Jewish Hospital over the past 9 months.

Wow, this is sad news.  Ellen lived across the street from me in Walkup Woods. She was bright, funny and up for pretty much anything. I'm happy she lived a happy life and was devoted to her family and animals. Rest well, friend. With fondness Brenna McDonough

My dearest friend for nearly 60 yrs. I can't imagine life without Ellen in it. I will miss our Friday night phone calls (some lasting 4 hrs!) where we talked about everything, anything and nothing. Ellen was smart, funny, feisty, honest and most importantly, loyal. I miss her already and will forever. Her daughter and I had planned a face time call for "tomorrow", but sadly, tomorrow never came for her. Rest in peace dear friend. 😢❤️
