Thanks Wonz I just love trips down memory lane in CL! What I remember most about Martinetti’s was how the parking lot was always full and after having eaten there the thought occurred to me that the dining rooms couldn’t hold that many people whereupon I was informed there was gambling in the basement! Also remember going there with my Dad after my Mother’s funeral service and having quite a few pops together as much like old buddies as Father and son.I think brother Scott went there with Mother for an all you can eat lobster feast and ate so much he got sick and didn’t eat lobster for a long, long time.
Do you also remember when the Pinemoor was busted for having phones upstairs for gambling when Harry Schnell both owned the Pinemoor and was court Bailiff?
I also remember Chris Dowd buzzing around as our waitress on Wednesdays at the Virginian when they had their special chicken night. Mary Ann Hidding recently explained to me why chicken tastes so much better back there than in California and it’s because of being broasted, BTW.
Another great memory was playing 9 holes at the Club, going in for a rare cheeseburger & fries before playing the back nine. Many years later I found out something I didn’t know at the time, that Harry Shields was pearl diving in the kitchen AND he was restricted to the Caddy Crapper when nature called. And oh yes, those ice cold bottles of Kayo chocolate drink in the refrigerated dispenser between the Pro Shop and the old cart barn. And how great the prizes became in junior golf when Mrs. Isaacson was in charge!
OK! enough nostalgia, maybe too much for some maybe others want to join in and add their memories here? We shall see.
Love,
Kingfish
