From Dick Visin :
Best friend and classmate Dennis Rich passed away in his sleep on 6/11/2014 from cancer. He and I grew up together on Walkup Avenue and maintained our friendship(brotherhood) for 60 years. We were able to get together once a year the last several years when Dennis would visit his mother for her birthday and winterize her home.
I recently visited with Dennis in April 2014 when he asked me to accompany his mom(91 yrs. old) from Crystal Lake to California. He was upbeat and still able to get around. Dennis was truly one of the good people in this world. I will miss my best friend but never forget him.
The family is considering holding a Memorial Service in Crystal Lake later this summer.

Dennis and I were very close through school, we were like brothers! We lost touch after I went in the Navy in 1969, and never got connected again. We were two of the crazy guys that ran McDonalds for a few years, the fun we had in those days are such epic memories now! I am saddened by his loss but know that he is now with God! May you Rest In Peace my brother, you are greatly missed! My sympathy goes out to his family! May God Bless!

I am saddened to read about Dennis. I remember him coming to St. Thomas many years ago when we were in grade school. He was a lovely kid and I am sure he grew into a wonderful man. Thanks Dick Visin for sharing your memories. I remember you too and so many people from "back in the day". If I remember correctly Dennis had a sister and I believe his mom or parents were from Germany originally. Memory doesn't fill in all the gaps!
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go our to all who knew Dennis and of course to his family.
It's one more reminder to make everyday count and let the people you love, know you love them.
Warmly,
Brenna McDonough

Dennis was a loyal friend from childhood thru his return from vietnam. Then we sadly lost touch. We came of age together. One time, probably senior year, i asked to borrow $200 (prob $1k today) for a car payment . He said sure. I repaid it a few days later. Crazy vacation in door county, where i banged up his motorcycle. New years eve midnight we lit a big firework that didnt get the altitude we expected--run! Working at mcdonalds for $2.15 hr. When there were fewer than 50 McDs in the universe. So many memories.
my heart goes out to his brother, sister, and other family and friends.
