CRYSTAL LAKE – Jody A. Leahy, 62, of Crystal Lake, passed away June 1, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born Jan. 13, 1950, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of James J. and Lois M. Morgan (nee Halverson). She married Thomas J. Leahy on Sept. 23, 1972, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Crystal Lake.

A native of Crystal Lake for 50 years, Jody graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School in 1968, and the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater with a bachelor's degree in 1971. Jody passionately taught language arts for almost 20 years in Woodstock School District 200, at Olson and Northwood middle schools, where she was adored by her students.

Jody could fly an airplane, sail a boat, play the piano and ride horses, among other talents and pursuits. She was a member of the National Ski Patrol, the CLHS choir and 1968 homecoming court, a gourmet cook, an aerobics instructor, a Cub Scout den mother and a longtime faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She enjoyed camping, traveling, dining out with her family and took great pleasure in leaving large, unanticipated tips.

She had a fun-loving, bubbly personality, an infectious laugh and a radiant smile. She was a beautiful and unfailingly devoted wife and mother who will be desperately missed.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Thomas; two children, Sarah Leahy of Chicago and Morgan Leahy of Cincinnati; mother, Lois Morgan of Liberty, Mo.; beloved mother-in-law, Mary A. Leahy (nee Sullivan) of Crystal Lake; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many dear and loving friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James; and father-in-law, Edward J. Leahy.

The visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at Skaja Bachmann Funeral Home, 7715 West Route 14, Crystal Lake. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake.

I think Jody's friends are too sad to add something here. What a kind person she was (is)!

Jody was my maid of honor at my wedding in 1969. She was a loyal and loving friend, always up for fun times from breezing the Freeze to making an ice cream run to  Baskin-Robbins in Barrington. Tom showed such adoring love and compassion for Jody during her long illness. If  your look up the word "angel" in the dictionary, Tom's picture would be there. Jody is missed but lives on in my heart.

I met Jody Morgan 50 years ago in the basement bathroom of Lundal Jr. High. We were the "new girls".Colleen Drayer was there. We remained best friends for 50 years. She was also my maid of honor at my wedding .  Jody was the maid of honor at many weddings because she was such a great friend and honorable to so many friends and family. I will always treasure her humor, wit, singing with gusto, and her great affection and kindness for those she loved. And boy!  Could she tell a joke!  She was unusually and unabashadlyfunny, fond, caring, and kind to anyone she met..Missed every darn day.

I remember when Jody, Debbie and I met in that bathroom.  Jody and I shared all the secrets that girls share growing up. I was treated like another daughter by her mom and dad and she was treated like another daughter in our family.  My brothers thought of Jody as a sister.  Our moms even decided when we could do things like our first party with boys or getting our ears pierced.  (It was our 16th birthday- I waited the 6 days for Jody to turn 16 after me so we could go together.) I consider that one of the best things I ever did was introducing Tom and Jody and to this day Tom agrees with me.  I miss her everyday.  I am surprised by how much it still hurts that she is gone and while we grew up together we will not get the chance to grow old together.

I am not sure if I ever even spoke to Jody in the four years of high school, but to me she always epitomized style, grace, and the classy way that she interacted with all her classmates.

I am so sorry to learn that Jody is no longer with us. During my year as an AFS-student i at CLHS she was one of my sweetest and funniest friends. She tried to teach me some of the American social codes that differed from mine, and she shared thoughts with humour as well as depth. Thank you, Jody!
